Background.
Joanna started out in Chemical Manufacturing and the manufacture of cleaning products. It was there where she was asked to start helping complete risk assessments and got more involved with the Health and Safety side of the business. She then became the Forensic Scientist, and her role involved more H&S, therefore she completed her NEBOSH certifications.
Joanna then moved companies and was working in health, safety, and pharmaceuticals for three years before she decided she wanted a new challenge and approached Shirley Parsons to help find a new position.
“I applied for a job at the company I’m with now. I met with Shirley Parsons Careers Consultant, he told me what the role entailed, and it ticked all the boxes. I went for the interview and thankfully was hired.”
The right hire.
Joanne explains that another site at Vernacare was then looking for a Health and Safety professional to join the team.
“I recommended Shirley Parsons straight away. As a company we just weren’t hiring the right people. I said there’s just something about Shirley Parsons. I know I’d personally had such a good experience with them. That’s when they found us Ian and he’s doing really well.”
“I then got clearance to find a Safety, Health, and Environmental Advisor at our site in Chorley. We were struggling a little because there wasn’t a lot of professionals with the right experience looking for a new role.”
Joanne then explains that it was Shirley Parsons Managing Health and Safety Careers Consultant Ryan Binneethat helped secure her next right hire.
“Ryan was so helpful. I was constantly on the phone asking if they had found someone suitable for us. That’s when he presented Chimdi. I was comprehensive at first. Chimdi had plenty of health and safety qualifications but not much practical experience. But, as he would be based at my home site in Chorley, then we took a chance on him, and he’s been absolutely brilliant. He’s literally took the bull by its horns and is perfect for that site.”
Chimdi Chukudi has now been the SHE Advisor at Vernacare since May 2023.
