Development of UK Integrated Management System ensures compliance with UK Nuclear requirements

Shirley Parsons Project Services helps global business with the implementation of a corporate integrated management system.

Background.

A global project management organisation was utilising a management system based on an American model. In order to ensure full compliance with UK nuclear requirements, they needed to introduce an Integrated Management System (IMS) based on the UK standard. As well as providing compliance, the new IMS was needed to improve co-ordination, integration and co-operation across all aspects of the organisation.

Implementation.

Shirley Parsons was requested to do a gap analysis and review of the current IMS. After meeting with key stakeholders and process owners, they were asked to formulate and determine the best requirement and create an IMS that covers business centre activities which is fit for purpose and reflects the scope of ISO 9001, including head of functions, policies standards, procedures and document control/review.

The report of the current IMS showed numerous differences between the operating IMS and corporate IMS. Links to documents that were stored on two separate systems were inoperative and it was not fully populated in all functional areas. There was also no overarching Quality Manual for the UK corporate IMS.

Shirley Parsons presented a strategic plan to develop a new corporate IMS during a tight timeframe, to ensure a standalone, effective integrated management system. They also suggested producing a corporate Quality Manual so the IMS can be demonstrated to any interested parties, including new starters by including in the formal company induction process.

Benefits.

The development and instigation of a standalone corporate integrated management system will bring several benefits and will be able to satisfy the requirements of outside auditors, specifically third-party certification bodies.

The system will also be defined as the organisation continues to grow, with the potential for a matrix-style IMS in the future. It will also avoid duplication of effort and manage all systems more efficiently.

Shirley Parsons continues to support the company onsite and with numerous HSEQ requirements and deliver senior strategic consultancy oversight support.
