BakerHicks is a leading design, engineering, and project delivery company with operations across Europe. Known for their innovative approach and commitment to quality, they support clients across sectors including life sciences, infrastructure, and industrial manufacturing.
They had an immediate need for a highly skilled Quality Engineer to support projects in their growing European division, specifically in Germany. While they had a robust internal Talent Acquisition team, they were finding it challenging to identify candidates with the precise blend of technical expertise, cultural alignment, and local market knowledge required for the role.
Having successfully placed multiple Quality professionals for BakerHicks in the UK, Shirley Parsons was approached by the Director of Quality, Joe Maguire, to explore whether we could replicate this success in a new geographical context. The main challenge lay in sourcing candidates within a competitive European market, while navigating local employment expectations and logistical complexities.
Leveraging an established relationship with the client, Managing Quality Consultant Jess Plested engaged in strategic conversations with both the Director of Quality and the German Talent Acquisition team. Drawing from our recent experience in Health & Safety recruitment in Europe, Jess positioned Shirley Parsons as a capable partner in the region.
A rigorous selection process followed. All shortlisted candidates were personally interviewed via Teams to assess technical fit and alignment with BakerHicks’ culture and values. Of the four profiles submitted, all were progressed to first-stage interviews. Three were invited to final face-to-face interviews in Karlsruhe with the Director of Quality and Director of Engineering. Following the final stage, an offer was extended to one candidate.
BakerHicks successfully secured a high-calibre Quality Engineer for their German team, significantly strengthening their quality function within the region. The assignment highlighted Shirley Parsons’ ability to deliver strategic recruitment support across borders, combining industry knowledge, market insight, and a client-first approach.
