Good Safety is Good Business: HSEQ Market Outlook for 2026

Head of Executive Search, Liam Tiddy, explores the senior HSEQ market, key growth areas, and what 2026 holds for leaders in the sector.

A strong start to the year.

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had an enjoyable festive season and is feeling refreshed and ready for 2026.

Looking back, 2025 was an interesting year for the senior HSEQ market, bringing both challenges and opportunities. While the post‑summer market was slow to pick up, November and December turned out to be among the busiest months we experienced throughout the year – a trend supported by broader sector hiring data. Key areas of growth.

This momentum has continued into the start of 2026. Growth has been particularly strong in major projects, infrastructure, and logistics-focused organisations.

While there are some sector-specific variations, the overall trend is clear: organisations are seeking HSEQ leaders who can engage at all levels and drive transformational change. This aligns with insights from Shirley Parsons’ 2025 HSEQ & Sustainability Report, which highlighted ongoing demand for senior leaders capable of delivering strategic impact. The interim market remains active.

The interim HSEQ market has also been busy. Many business leaders recognise that expert advice on a short-term or part-time basis can deliver real value, particularly during periods of transformation or project ramp-up. Research shows interim leadership demand has been rising as organisations seek flexible solutions to accelerate change. (Heidrick & Struggles, 2025)

Looking ahead.

Whether this level of activity continues throughout 2026 remains to be seen. However, the increasingly prevalent view that “good safety is good business” continues to resonate with boards and industry leaders alike. Investment in HSEQ leadership, digital safety tools, and workforce wellbeing remains a priority across sectors.
