Supporting the Next Generation of Safety Leaders
At Shirley Parsons, we’re committed to supporting continuous professional development in health and safety. That’s why we’re proud to feature the Leisure Expert Panel (LEP) Safety Management Mentoring Programme, a unique initiative designed to help new and emerging safety professionals grow their confidence, knowledge, and industry connections.
Now in its sixth year, the LEP Safety Management Mentoring Programme is a free, year-long development initiative created and led by Jen Hicks, Group Risk Director at ATG Entertainment. Designed specifically for those beginning to manage safety responsibilities, the programme provides access to expert-led training, professional mentoring, and a supportive industry network.
Reflecting on the origins of the initiative, Jen explains:
“I designed this programme after realising how much of my early learning came through sink-or-swim moments. I wanted to create something that helps others build confidence and competence in safety management, without feeling like they’re navigating it alone. The feedback we receive year after year tells us it does just that.”
A year of growth and learning.
The LEP Safety Management Mentoring Programme runs over 12 months and is completely free to attend, with sessions delivered by experts from leading organisations across leisure, hospitality, insurance, and consultancy sectors.
Participants benefit from a blend of professional learning and personal growth opportunities, including:
- Expert-led training sessions on wellbeing, H&S consultancy, legal support, claims and litigation, and more.
- Monthly 1-2-1 mentoring with experienced professionals offering tailored guidance and advice.
- Networking events and coffee mornings that encourage collaboration, reflection, and shared learning across the safety community.
Partner organisations supporting this initiative include ATG Entertainment, Center Parcs, City of London Corporation, Go Ape, Kennedys, Keoghs, Intact Insurance, WTW (Willis), and others.

Applications for the 2025/26 LEP Mentoring Programme are now open until 7 November 2025. The programme is free to attend, with travel and time supported by the applicant or their organisation.
