A Royal Appointment: Could You Lead Health & Safety for The Royal Household?

The Royal Household
What does Health & Safety look like when your workplace includes Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and some of the most famous Royal residences in the world?

Having successfully appointed the current Head of Health & Safety, Shirley Parsons is delighted to once again be trusted by The Royal Household to lead the search for their successor.

Led by Liam Tiddy, Head of Executive Search at Shirley Parsons, the search represents a rare opportunity for an experienced Health & Safety leader to shape strategy and lead Health & Safety across some of the UK’s most iconic and culturally significant locations.

While protecting his Majesty the King and members of the Royal Family might be the first thing that comes to mind, the remit extends much further. The Royal Estates are complex working environments, bringing together employees, contractors and visitors alongside major events, construction and refurbishment projects, day-to-day operations and the challenges associated with historic, public-facing buildings.

The next Head of Health & Safety will lead a specialist team and work closely with senior stakeholders across The Royal Household, providing strategic direction while ensuring Health & Safety remains effective, practical and embedded across a diverse estate.

A trusted executive search partnership.

Liam previously led the search that resulted in the appointment of the current Head of Health & Safety. With the current postholder now preparing to retire, The Royal Household has returned to Shirley Parsons to identify their successor.

Having worked closely with the organisation during the previous appointment, Liam brings an established understanding of the Royal Household, the scope of the role and the leadership qualities required.

The renewed partnership reflects the long-term approach Shirley Parsons takes to Executive Search, building relationships and understanding organisations so we can continue to support their leadership requirements as they evolve.

What does it take to lead Health & Safety for The Royal Household?

The breadth of the Royal Estates calls for an established Health & Safety leader with significant experience gained within a large, complex organisation.

Experience in public-facing environments will be particularly relevant, including major events, visitor attractions, heritage sites, cultural institutions or venues. The successful candidate will also need experience of CDM Regulations, capital projects, refurbishment programmes, project risk management and construction safety governance.

Alongside technical expertise, the role requires someone who can engage and influence senior stakeholders, work effectively across diverse functions and ensure Health & Safety strategy translates into practice.

Candidates should be Chartered Members of IOSH (CMIOSH), ideally supported by a safety-related degree qualification.

An opportunity to make a lasting impact.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build on the work already undertaken, shape the future direction of Health & Safety and strengthen organisational culture across the Royal Estates.

For Shirley Parsons, being trusted to lead the search again is particularly significant as we celebrate our 21st anniversary, reflecting the specialist HSEQ expertise, relationships and market knowledge we have developed over more than two decades.

The Head of Health & Safety, The Royal Household is a permanent position. The role will be predominantly based in London, with responsibility across Royal Estates in London, Windsor and Edinburgh.
