Connecting Leaders: Highlights from our Waste Management H&S Director Meet-Up

Waste Management H&S Director Meet-Up

At Shirley Parsons, we are dedicated to creating opportunities for Health & Safety professionals to learn, share, and collaborate.

Our recent Waste Management H&S Director Meet-Up, organized by Senior Careers Consultant Mike Roebuck, brought this vision to life, combining an educational site tour with open discussions among industry leaders.

A behind-the-scenes look at Energy Recovery.

The day kicked off with an insightful tour of the Veolia Energy Recovery Facility, led by Director of Risk & Assurance, Matthew Jackson. Attendees witnessed first-hand how household waste is transformed into energy that powers homes and electric vehicles, while valuable materials such as metals and asphalt are recovered.

The tour offered a unique perspective on how innovation, sustainability, and risk management intersect in practice, sparking lively discussions among participants about both the challenges and opportunities in waste and resource management.

Conversations that matter.

Following the tour, the group reconvened for lunch at London Bridge, where discussions continued in a more informal setting. Leaders from across the sector exchanged insights on emerging risks, workforce challenges, and evolving best practices, as well as ideas for future collaboration.

By combining structured learning with relaxed networking, the meet-up created a space for meaningful connections, strengthening relationships and fostering a shared sense of purpose.

Want to be part of our next event?

We’re already planning future meetups and site tours. If you know of a facility that would provide a compelling perspective, whether through its risk profile, innovative processes, or unique operational challenges, we’d love to hear from you.
