A growing plastics recycling and manufacturing organization is seeking an EHS Manager for its Fort Payne, AL facility. This person will be responsible for leading environmental, health, and safety initiatives across a high-volume recycling operation while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. Working closely with operations leadership, the successful candidate will help strengthen safety performance, mitigate risk, and support continuous improvement efforts. The Role
  • Lead all environmental, health, and safety programs for a plastics recycling and processing facility, promoting a proactive culture focused on risk reduction, hazard recognition, and employee engagement.
  • Conduct risk assessments, audits, inspections, incident investigations, and root cause analyses while driving corrective and preventive actions throughout the operation.
  • Oversee key safety programs including machine guarding, LOTO, confined space, fall protection, contractor safety, mobile equipment safety, respiratory protection, and emergency preparedness.
  • Manage environmental compliance activities including air emissions, stormwater, wastewater, SPCC, hazardous and universal waste programs, regulatory reporting, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Partner with operations and leadership teams to analyze EHS performance metrics, maintain ISO 14001 systems, support continuous improvement efforts, and ensure regulatory compliance across the site.
The Candidate
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of EHS experience within manufacturing, industrial, recycling, or other process-driven environments.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and delivering safety training programs while influencing employees and leaders at all organizational levels.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, environmental compliance requirements, hazardous waste management, and industrial safety programs.
  • Self-motivated professional with excellent communication, project management, and problem-solving skills; professional certifications such as ASP, CSP, or CHMM are preferred.
