  • Publish Date: Posted almost 3 years ago

Next Step Safety is an all-inclusive forum within the Health and Safety industry that looks to collaborate with like-minded professionals on how they can take the next step in their career, whatever that might be. Our second forum on 23rd June featured Jay Vekaria, Director of HSE & Risk Management for VISA.

Jay is recognised as one of the leading young HSE professionals globally:

  • Health & Safety at Work – 40 under 40 Outstanding Professionals

  • RoSPA Influencer of the Year 2020

  • One of the most influential EHS professionals on LinkedIn 2021

Shirley and Tayla interviewed Jay to find out his "Three Hats" approach and get tips and advice about how HSE professionals can adopt his method:

The Three Hats are Auditor, Advisor, Influencer:

Auditor: A Sherlock Holmes approach defines your method of health and safety using logic and technical knowledge. Find out what’s wrong?

Advisor: A solution-based thinking, understanding their business, adding value to the business, and being empathic with the client. Be practical.

Influencer: Who you are as a trusted professional, a leader, a role model of health and safety. How you communicate to all tiers of the business. Be self-aware.
