About Tom

​Tom has a strong background working with clients across the Construction and Energy markets in the US and internationally. He graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Geography & Environmental Studies at the University of Portsmouth before moving deciding on a career at Shirley Parsons.

Joining as a graduate in 2014, Tom initially supported construction organizations in the UK, before moving to Boston, MA in 2018 to further establish SP’s construction safety offering in North America. In this time Tom has supported companies across the construction, energy, utilities and tech sectors in delivering both recruitment and consulting safety solutions.

Tom enjoys building partnerships with clients to understand their company-specific safety challenges and delivering high quality solutions.

Director of Safety

Shirley Parsons is exclusively working a long side a new established Private Equity firm that operates within the Refrigeration and HVAC industry. This company has a subsidiary of companies across the United States and is looking to appoint a Director of Safety to help establish policies, procedures and roll an effective Environmental, Health & Safety program across the country. This role is best suited for a Safety Professional with 10+ years experience - ideally with a background working for a refrigeration or HVAC contractor. Interested candidates should have prior experience of delivering safety strategy business wide and have strong stakeholder engagement abilities.  This is a remote based opportunity, however candidates based on the East Coast are preferred.   The Role:  Oversees the field staff in ensuring the company and its job sites remain hazard and accident free by conducting periodic safety inspectionsCollect and analyze available date, investigation outcomes, and field observations to identify and systematically address areas for safety process and policy improvement throughout the enterpriseMaintain documentation, assist in inspecting and investigation incidents, and help provide safety trainingEnsure every member of the company complies with health and safety lawsIdentify hazards and implement various safety programs Prepare and present safety reports for upper level management  The Candidate: 10+ years experience in installation construction environments safety requiredRefrigeration or HVAC experience ideal CHST preferred CSP, CIH, CHMM Preferred Bachelors degree in EHS or related field required Strong written and verbal communication skills

We are working with an engineering contractor to find a Safety Manager based in Frederick, Maryland. This company delivers construction projects for some of the biggest utilities companies in the US. This role is a growing organization, offering great career development opportunities working with some of the biggest clients in the electrical utilities and energy market. The ideal candidate will have a Safety Degree and 3-5 years' + experience within safety in the construction or electrical utilities market.The Role: Promote a proactive safety culture at all levels of the organization, with heavy focus on employee engagement towards the safety programWork closely with both the Regional Executive, Safety Director and project superintendents on site in delivering a positive culture toward safety.Undertake job-site inspections, hazard observations, near miss investigations and audits across all operational projects as deemed necessaryIdentify, develop and deliver safety training in areas such as: safety regulation, hazardous conditions, use of tools and equipment etc. Ensure company continually remains compliant and informed of industry regulatory changes when it comes to bodies such as OSHA The Candidate: Proven experience in a construction environment (circa. 3-5 years)Bachelors Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering or other related discipline (preferred)CHST or CUSPProven communicator, who can engage with key internal & external stakeholders across all levels, from project teams to senior leadershipBased in Maryland
