Shirley Parsons HSEQ specific profiling tool MAPP ensures employee retention for global manufacturer.

Background.

TMD Friction are global leaders in the manufacturing of brake friction technology and materials and have over 15 sites worldwide. They were struggling with staff retention and attracting new staff with the right engineering and technical background.

Vice President of HSE at TMD Lynn Edwards had already been working with Shirley Parsons Careers Services for over 10 years’ and was then introduced to their Talent Consultancy and MAPP; their HSEQ specific profiling tool.

Implementation.

Over a three-month period, all site HSE Manager employees at TMD took the profiling test MAPP,to determine their motivations, aspirations, personality, and progression. This was then followed up by a confidential one-to-one to discuss their results.

Shirley Parsons was then able to give TMD and Lynn a full overview of their HSE Managers, their aspirations and career objectives which enabled them to gain a deeper understanding of their team and work with them going forward.

Outcome and Benefits.

Thanks to MAPP, TMD have since been able to retain employees who have the necessary engineering background and are able to succession plan. This includes employees who are planning on retiring in the next couple of years and working with them to ensure a smooth transition.

Lynn Edwards, Vice President HSE at TMD Friction said:

“I’d like to thank Shirley Parsons and the Talent Consultancy team for the time and effort they put into the whole process. MAPP was a great fit for TMD and has enabled us to open doors and have those conversations with our team which we wouldn’t have been able to do otherwise.

“Thanks to MAPP, we have been able to determine our HSE Manager aspirations and motivators. I was surprised to find out that salary was not a main motivator, being happy and feeling valued was the main criteria, followed by salary. This is important information, as an enabler we can tailor our future planning to provide a working environment that retains, trains and motivates individuals to grow within TMD Friction.”
