The Health and Safety Event.

Led by Peter Jenkins, Head of Safety at Stagecoach, and a panel of experts, Shirley Parsons Head of Careers, Phil Muston, took part in ‘Your OSH professional journey: make it amazing the best professionals" seminar at the Health and Safety Event in NEC, Birmingham.

The seminar provided valuable insights into how to plan your development path and what tools and support are available to help you succeed. Phil offered his insights and perspectives, using his extensive experience in hiring OSH professionals for numerous businesses.

Key takeaways from the seminar included:

·       Don’t chase a job title, find the role that makes you happy.

·       Think about where you want to make a difference and why.

·       Your professional journey doesn’t have to only go ‘up’ to the more senior roles, you can move sideways or take a step back if that’s what is best for you.

Attracting and Retaining Top EHS Talent.

Shirley Parsons Managing Partner, Project Services Gerry Pearson was invited to deliver a presentation at the NSC Network’s EU Health, Safety and Environment Forum in Amsterdam. The NSC Network’s European Union Health, Safety and Environment Forum offers senior level executives responsible for HSE programs at companies operating in the EU the opportunity to network and communicate with their professional peers on critical issues regarding health, safety, and environment.

Gerry said:

“An interactive discussion was had with various EHS leaders along with a presentation of Shirley Parsons recent market insights report which surveyed 1,600 people on job satisfaction, careers aspirations, and remuneration.”

“If you have the right people on the bus, the problem of how to motivate and manage people largely goes away. The right people don’t need to be tightly managed or fired up; they will be self-motivated by the inner drive to produce the best results and to be part of creating something great.”

Why A Safety Management System Is Critical To Your Business?

Also on Wednesday 26th April, Shirley Parsons Director of Project Services Nick Farkas joined Shirley Parsons Global EHS expert, Tony Militello on a webinar called ‘Why A Safety Management System Is Critical To Your Business.’

During the webinar, both Nick and Tony shared their expert advice on, when to organise, develop, execute, and assess in a systematic way that workplace safety and occupational health programs can produce to achieve impactful and sustainable business outcomes that go beyond injury and illness prevention and regulatory compliance.

“As an organization-wide approach to managing safety and health, an effective SMS does not exist in isolation; but is in fact designed to coexist and operate in unison with an organization’s overarching management system. It is that symbiotic relationship that helps lead businesses to operational excellence.”
