Shirley Parson’s Head of Search, Liam Tiddy, had the privilege of joining a live panel at this year’s Safety, Health and Wellbeing (SHW) Live show in Manchester.

Liam, who has worked at Shirley Parson’s since its creation in 2005, was invited to join IOSH President Lawrence Webb and IOSH Future Leaders Group member Tristin Morrison to discuss OSH as a first choice career.

During the talk, the panel discussed how safety and health need to be a first career choice for more young people and why it is important OSH professionals give those with theoretical knowledge, a chance to also gain practical experience.

‘Better Diversity = Better Decision Making’

Diversity was also a key topic during the event as the need to support more people getting into an industry that is still predominantly male dominated.

Drawing on his experience of managing senior appointments across key sectors of H&S, Sustainability, ESG and Quality, Liam said:

“It was a great event that went really well. It was busy, and people were asking lots of questions, even after the live talk. These types of Q&As at shows such as the SHW are a great way to start a discussion on important topics such as this and get the room engaged.

“We spoke about health and safety as a genuine career from secondary school and apprenticeships and even people moving into the industry as a second or third career. It was a pleasure to represent Shirley Parsons, and I feel people left the talk feeling positive about the future of the industry.”

With over 4000 attendees and 200 exhibitors, as well as a second show in the south of England, the SHW Show continues to be one of the biggest platforms to showcase HSEQ and reconnect and empower Occupational Safety and Health professionals throughout the UK.

Shirley Parsons will also be involved in future national events such as the SHE Show, Beyond HSEQ in London in April and the Expo in Birmingham in April.
