About Simon

​Simon is a Senior Associate within Shirley Parsons Project Services team.

He has a passion for helping businesses and organisations across all sectors improve the way they work; whether in the design of their businesses, realising the benefits of new tech and digital opportunities, or in the delivery of operational improvements.

His range of experiences covers both the public and private sectors in the UK and globally. In 20 years as a consultant, he has helped over thirty businesses delivering over 60 projects and programmes.

Simon set up on his own in January 2022 following four years at the Oakland Group specialising in delivering complex change programmes focussed on quality and operations transformations. Prior to that he spent 5 years at PA Consulting leading change programmes in a range of environments, varying from the implementation of a new crime recording system across Leicestershire police force, to the design and installation of a new capability for the MOD in the oversight of the submarine acquisition programme.

Since working on his own, Simon has supported HMRC, both in developing their Sustainability delivery framework; and in their Portfolio Management Office where he developed and captured new ways of working that enabled automation of many of their P3M processes through the implementation of a new Project Management software.

He also led a programme at Hitachi Energy to design, and get alignment of the top 100 leaders in, a new global governance and assurance framework to enable the business to effectively manage its operations while it grows from an $8bn to $16bn business over the next five years.

Outside of work Simon likes to keep active and to support his community. He is a regular runner, and has completed several marathons. In support of the community, he is a Governor at a local primary school, a director of his local residents association, and a Non-Executive Director for a family run business.

Health & Safety Advisor Role Split Between Cork, Dublin & Home Leading Distribution, Logistics & Transport business Job Overview Working in Partnership with a leading Distribution business, we are currently seeking a Health & Safety Advisor to support implementation and maintenance of a professional, competent and knowledge sharing Health and Safety culture across a large, fast moving distribution network. The candidate will ensure that best in class health, safety and facilities are planned, implemented, and shared effectively. The role will work within the Cork and surrounding regions; however the role will involve travel to Dublin on a weekly basis. Education / Essential Criteria: - Possess a degree or equivalent level qualification (Level 6) or higher qualification in Occupational Health and Safety. - Can demonstrate 2 years' relevant experience in a Health & Safety Advisor/Officer role Responsibilities: - Maintain, develop and communicate all health and safety policies, procedures, risk assessments, SOPs etc. ensuring document control is in place and all documents adhere to relevant legislation. - Support the investigation process for near misses, accidents, incidents and dangerous occurrences and producing reports and making recommendations for improvements. - Participate in HS&E related meetings, record and produce statistics for same - Support the Head of Health, Safety & Sustainability with health and safety and environmental inspections and audits across all sites. - Undertake additional specific health and safety compliance tasks such as DSE assessments, safety management of each facility i.e. fire alarm inspections etc. - Preparation and undertaking of health & safety induction and other in-house health and - safety training with managers and employees. - Proactively supporting the development of promotional campaigns and materials to raise awareness of hazards, incidents and preventative actions. - Co-ordinate responses to all general health and safety queries. Knowledge / Experience / Technical competencies: - Undertaking workplace inspections, writing reports and developing & monitoring completion of associated action plans. - Completing a range of Risk Assessments, developing written Safe Systems of Work and Method Statements. - Solid experience of providing health and safety support within a multi-sites business environment. - Experience in a warehouse/distribution/FMCG/construction environment preferred but not essential. - Experience in auditing HS&E management systems (desirable). This role will play a pivotal part in enhancing the internal Health and Safety culture while overseeing the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of Health and Safety systems. This opportunity offers a hybrid working arrangement predominantly in an office with flexibility to work from home and attend sites on occasion. The position is well-suited to candidates based anywhere in the Leeds area or South of there, who are willing and able to occasionally travel to various sites across the UK. This position is particularly attractive for individuals with a few years of experience who are now seeking to take the next step in their career.
